Ebola Concerns Cancel Another Night At Brooklyn’s The Gutter
Craig Spencer, who returned to New York Oct. 17 after treating Ebola patients in Guinea with Doctors Without Borders, tested positive for the virus Thursday, according to the New York Times. Spencer was placed in isolation at Bellevue Hospital and the city’s health commissioner said he was in stable condition on Friday.
Three people have been quarantined and disease investigators are looking for anyone else who many have been in contact with the doctor since Tuesday morning. One place Spencer stopped by was The Gutter, where he went bowling. Although Spencer told officials he wasn’t experiencing symptoms on Wednesday, the venue voluntarily closed Thursday as a precautionary measure.
The Goodnight Records CMJ Party was supposed to feature performances from The Big Sleep, Heaven, Friend Roulette, Heliotropes, Sunclub, KNTRLR, Cantina, and Haybaby.
Early Friday morning The Gutter posted the following statement on Facebook, “We are working with the NYC Health Department to have the bar cleaned and sanitized under their supervision and expect to be open sometime today after that is completed. Doctors advising the Health Department have told us that our staff and customers were at no risk.”
The Gutter’s FB page hasn’t been updated since 8:33 a.m. EDT. Meanwhile, promoter Gimme Tinnitus says that tonight’s show with Be Forest, The Flag, Kindling, Night Powers, Lia Mice, Curelight Wounds, and Dott isn’t happening.
“If you are a non-CMJed venue that wants a show tonight, get at me ASAP because the show at @thegutter is cancelled,” @Gimme Tinnitus tweeted.
Night Powers alerted its fans that Friday’s show was cancelled with a post on its FB page.
The Gutter wasn’t available for comment when Pollstar called the venue earlier today.
