Odds & Ends: Rolling Stones, Prince, Taylor Swift, Gene Simmons, Beady Eye, Klaxons
How much are the autographs of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts worth to you?
The bandmembers have signed each of the 1,150 copies of a boxed collector’s edition of the Stones’ new coffee table book, which is priced at $5,000. Simply titled “The Rolling Stones,” the book includes hundreds of famous and little-known photos, taking fans on what Richards calls a “roller coaster” through the band’s 50 year history.
The book is due out in December. For fans without giant bank accounts or credit card limits, a regular edition of the book – unsigned and slightly smaller in dimension – will be sold for $150.
As if Taylor Swift wasn’t busy enough with her new album, she’s taken on a new job as the Big Apple’s Global Welcome Ambassador for 2014-2015 with NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization.
Swift announced the news on “Good Morning America” during an appearance to promote her new LP, 1989, which was released today.
The pop star moved to NYC earlier this year and is such a big fan of the city that she devoted the first track of the album to her new home.
“The new ‘Welcome To New York’ song is a perfect anthem for New York City and captures the energy and spirit of our world-class destination,” said Emily K. Rafferty, chairman of the board of NYC & Company and president of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. “Through this unique collaboration with Taylor Swift and the launch of this exciting new global tourism campaign, we will inspire more visitors to come here to experience the rich offerings of the five boroughs.”

While most performances on “SNL” have been broken up into two segments, most musical guests aren’t like Prince.
When Prince returns to “Saturday Night Live” Nov. 1, the Purple One will treat viewers to an unprecedented eight-minute long jam session. No commercials will dare interrupt the party. Don’t expect Prince to return for a closing encore.
Prince will be joined by his all-female band 3RDEYEGIRL, featuring guitarist Donna Grantis, bassist Idea Nielsen and drummer Hannah Ford.
Chris Rock is Saturday’s host.
Liam Gallagher broke the news to his Twitter followers this weekend that Beady Eye has split up.
The former Oasis lead vocalist didn’t give an explanation for the split. All we know is Gallagher wrote Oct. 25, “Beady Eye are no longer. Thanks for all your support. LGx” The tweet was posted on the musician’s personal Twitter page as opposed to the band’s account.
Beady Eye’s Twitter account hasn’t been too active this year. Its most recent tweets are from February, in which the band announced it had backed out of Coachella “for reasons beyond our control.”
The English rock band was formed in 2009 following Oasis’ big breakup. Along with Gallagher, Beady Eye was guitarists Gem Archer and Andy Bell, and drummer Chris Sharrock – four out of the five members of Oasis’ final lineup. The fifth member is, of course, Liam’s brother Noel.
Beady Eye played its last show in Osaka, Japan, in March. The group put out two albums, including its most recent, 2013’s BE.
“Thanks to all the Beady Eye fans,” Bell tweeted Oct. 25. “I had a blast. See you on the other side. Big Love Andy B X”
Klaxons haven’t called it quits, but it looks like the band has just launched its final headline tour.
The band tweeted Oct. 24, “After what’s been nearly 9 bananas years we’d like to let you know that we’ve decided the upcoming dates will be our last headline tour.” The news was accompanied by peace and love emojis.
A few hours later the English indie rock band clarified the remarks by adding, “After what we announced earlier we would like to comfort we are still looking forward to playing Mexico, Russia and Japan next/this year.”
A U.K. outing kicked off Oct. 25 in Norwich, England. European dates – including stops in Russia – are booked through late November. Klaxons head to Japan and Mexico in January.
Gene Simmons is always happy to share his opinions and advice, whether he’s talking about Donald Sterling, suicide or immigrants.
The KISS bassist/vocalist gave his two cents about women’s relationship and career choices on Friday while appearing on Fox News’ “Trending With Tantaros” Friday to discuss his new book, “Me, Inc: Build An Army of One, Unleash Your Inner Rock God, Win in Life and Business.”
“This is a very complex and difficult question to answer so I’m going to put it as simply as possible. Women: Stop depending on men. It’s as simple as that. Imagine there are no men in life,” Simmons said. “Find out that thing that you’re good for that makes the money and then get married and or have children from a position of strength.”
Gene Simmons is basically Dear Abby – except I’m not sure if anyone is really asking his advice.
