Macedonian Police Question 5 Over Eurovision Vote

Macedonian police are questioning five men suspected of trying to manipulate audience voting for the selection of the country’s representative in next year’s Eurovision song contest.

Police spokesman Ivo Kotevski says officers raided several locations in the capital, Skopje, and seized more than 1,000 pre-paid cellphone cards believed to have been used to dodge a multiple voting ban.

The operation followed the selection Wednesday of singer Daniel Kajmakoski to represent Macedonia in the contest. The voting process mixes jury members and the public, who send text messages.

Police said Thursday that the alleged scam didn’t affect the vote’s outcome.

Kotevski said the men being questioned included a music producer, a composer and singers – none of whom were involved in the contest.
