Future Music Moves In

Future Music Festival Asia is moving from Kuala Lumpur, where it was held for the last three years, to Singapore starting next March, organizers Livescape Group and Future Music Australia announced Nov. 17.

The switch was made in response to negative publicity surrounding a number of drug overdoses leading to death that occurred at last year’s FMFA, which occasioned the cancellation of the last day of the three-day festival. Several high-profile acts, including Pharrell and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, did not perform.

According to the TodayOnline website, Iqbal Ameer, group chief executive of Livescape, said as part of the announcement, “We’re confident that by moving FMFA across the causeway, we will be able to significantly provide not only a safe and fun environment for our guests, but the festival will also still be within easy reach for our Malaysian fans.”

The festival is expected to attract 50,000 people over two days and will feature “its biggest lineup to date.” None of the acts have yet been announced but next year’s FMFA in Australia will feature DrakeAvicii, The ProdigyAfrojackKnife Party2 Chainz and Die Antwoord.
