For Lorde-Dominated Awards

The first live broadcast for the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards (NZMA) brought in a record viewing audience of almost 500,000 – impressive figures for a country with a population of 4.4 million.

The awards, which took place Nov. 20 at Auckland’s , have traditionally had a delayed broadcast. The live coverage of the awards and the red carpet special reached the biggest television audience in VNZMA history, according to producer MediaWorks TV.

The ceremony was screened on FOUR Channel, with an encore screening Nov. 22 on TV3 as well as MediaWortks’ on-demand service 3NOW. The event also topped the country’s Twitter stream.

Lorde dominated proceedings for second year in a row, this time with six wins. She won four in 2013. The 18-year-old took the “tuis” for album of the year for Pure Heroine, single of the year for “Team,” best female solo artist, best pop album, highest-selling single for “Royals” and the international achievement award.

Other multi-winners were The Naked And Famous (best group, best music video), R&B singer Stan Walker (people’s choice, radio airplay), and rapper David Dallas (best male solo artist, best urban-hip hop album.) Classical trio Sol3 Mio’s self-titled debut took home the trophy for highest-selling album. Chart-topper
