The Pit Now Pies
The University of New Mexico’s loved and feared arena, The Pit , is no more – at least not in name.
A local restaurant chain donated $5 million to the Albuquerque campus to secure naming rights to The Pit, which will be known for at least the next 10 years as WisePies Arena.
The move isn’t going over well with students and fans. Changing the name of The Pit spurred a steady stream of profanities and disbelief after the announcement was made Dec. 1.
“This is the worst news to happen to New Mexico since Colorado tried to claim green chili. #ThePit,” one person tweeted.
