TMW Tops For UK Media
Estonia’s Tallinn Music Week is one of the Top 5 music festivals in the world for people wanting a winter break, according to UK papers The Guardian and The Observer.
The papers’ shared editorial pointed out that each year the festival is opened by Estonia’s “rock-digging president” Toomas Hendrik Ilves, “who has been known to quote PJ Harvey and Jello Biafra in his annual festival speech.”
The praise follows an award TMW received in May, when The Great Escape – a UK showcase fest that apparently gives awards to others – said the Tallinn event had the best hospitality. In October TMW founder Helen Sildna won this year’s Tampere Music Award, a Finnish prize for outstanding contribution in the Nordic and Baltic regions.
The number of acts wanting to play the seventh edition of Tallinn Music Week totaled nearly 1,000 and they come from 39 countries. Tallinn Music Week 2015 is in the Estonian capital March 25-28. This year’s gathering attracted 813 conference delegates, with nearly 40 percent coming from outside Estonia.
