Canceled Due To Snow

As the Eastern Seaboard prepares for a winter storm that’s expected to dump up to three feet of snow on some areas, the first few show cancelations are beginning to trickle in.

Declaring a state of emergency, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued a travel ban beginning at 11 p.m. Monday on all Long Island roads. New York City has already cut back on commuter rail and subway service and Mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered city streets to close to all but emergency vehicles beginning at 11 p.m. tonight.

“It is not a regular storm,” de Blasio said.  “What you are going to see in a few hours is something that hits very hard and very fast.”

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie also declared a state of emergency.  Meanwhile, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy has ordered a travel band and called out the National Guard to help with emergencies.

Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo has ordered residents to stay off of the roads beginning at 8 p.m. tonight.  Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has issued an indefinite ban on all nonessential motor vehicles beginning at midnight.  Scoffers could be fined up to $500 for ignoring the ban.

As to concerts scheduled for the affected areas, Pollstar is already seeing postponement and cancellation notices.

New York City:

The Blue Man Group announced via Twitter that it has canceled tonight’s show at Astor Place Theatre.

Tonight’s Marilyn Manson’s show at Terminal 5 has been rescheduled for Jan. 29.  Manson’s Tuesday night show at the Paramount in Huntington, N.Y., has been postponed.

Tonight’s Steve Earle and Willie Nile residency gig at New York’s City Winery has been postponed and will be rescheduled. 

The Mercury Lounge has nixed two shows planned for tonight – Rocketboys with Great Caesar and the late show featuring We Are The Wilderness, Steady Sun and Ghastly City Sleep.

Louis C.K. has nixed his Tuesday night gig at Madison Square Garden.

Motion City Soundtrack has rescheduled tomorrow night’s show at Irving Plaza to Jan. 28.

Boston

Per House Of Blues Boston, tonight’s show with London Grammar will go on as planned.  However, the venue has canceled tomorrow night’s Ben Howard performance.

Baltimore

Although Motion City Soundtrack tweeted that it would make its engagement at the Fillmore Silver Spring in Silver Spring, Md., near Baltimore tonight, the band said support act Vinnie Caruana would not appear.
