WMG, Interns Talking Settlement

Warner Music Group has reached a settlement in a class-action lawsuit filed against it by former unpaid interns, a lawyer for the company said in a letter to a judge in the case Jan. 28.

Plaintiffs Kyle Grant and Justin Henry successfully petitioned for class action status in the suit, which a judge granted in May. The proposed class would likely have covered some 3,000 former interns.

While the parties notified the judge they have come to substantial agreement on terms of a settlement, an extension of time was granted to present a final proposal for approval.

The case is one among several filed by onetime interns in recent months that claim they were given unpaid “educational” internships, only to be given work that normally would have been performed by paid regular staff.
