Monmouth Construction On Hold

A federal judge issued a restraining order in October to keep sports betting out of the Monmouth Park Racetrack, but the state challenged the decision and an appeals court is scheduled to hear the case next month.
Developer Bob Kulina told the Asbury Park Press sports betting isn’t a requirement for the construction of the 7,500-capacity venue.
“[Sports wagering] obviously has a bearing on a lot of things we do,” he said. “We’re talking about a $10 million capital project and the future of sports wagering affects what we’ll do.
“Obviously there are issues, but it is something we want to do and hopefully, over time, we will do,” Kulina said. The amphitheater, which will be operated by AEG Live and local promoter Jerry Bakal, was expected to open in time for the 2015 summer season, the paper reported.
