Royal Blood

Dave Grohl knows something Gene Simmons apparently doesn’t: rock is not dead. For proof, look no further than the U.K. band the head Foo handpicked to open Foo Fighters’ upcoming Sonic Highways tour.

Royal Blood hails from Brighton, and makes a powerful amount of sound for just two guys: singer/bassist Ben Thatcher and drummer Mike Kerr. The band released its eponymous debut album in August, after a summer of wowing audiences on both sides of the Atlantic and on the strength of an EP, Out of the Black, released the previous spring.

The band toured the U.S. last year with Arctic Monkeys and Pixies, played a clutch of holiday radio shows, and hit major European festivals including Glastonbury, Download and T In The Park.

“The thing that excites me about Royal Blood is that they are a dynamic rock band, coming out at a time when there is a shortage of great rock bands,” WME agent Robby Fraser, who represents the band with Kirk Sommer, told Pollstar. “They stand out because of the amount of sound and power that is being produced by only two guys, both on stage and the recorded album.”

Fraser says there was “a process of education” about Royal Blood early on, but once the material was “in the right hands,” the music sold itself.  The band will have plenty of opportunities to sell its live show while writing its sophomore album on the road this summer.

“The touring strategy for 2015 is to mix headline touring in between festival plays to establish the band as a headlining artist,” Fraser said. “Through headline touring, we are building the band’s fan base in the US, while servicing markets that they’re already getting radio play in.  We will be taking this to the next level by supporting Foo Fighters in the summer, which will further expand their fan base.”

In addition to the Foo Fighters tour, Royal Blood already has dates with Australia’s Laneway, London’s 6 Music and California’s Coachella festivals, and a European tour before heading out with Grohl & Co.
