Droning In The Dark

Drones will make their entertainment debut later this year in the Netherlands when “Air 2015” takes flight at the .

The performance will apparently feature drones doing some fancy maneuvering above the crowd, plus lasers, projections and other effects – sort of like a mini airshow fit for an arena.“In this high energy and explosive show, drones will take centre stage to bring a collaboration and fusion of music, video, projections and special effects,” Air announced on Facebook. “Air allows you to experience a variety of ballet and battles, races and lasers, circus, illusions and most of all magic from hundreds of drones.”

Air will be promoted by Fjuze and is being developed in conjunction with the Royal Netherlands Air Force, the Guardian reported. While there’s no word whether such a show will make an appearance at arenas in the U.S. anytime soon, it’s worth noting the Federal Aviation Authority is seeking to tighten laws surrounding commercial drone use so the devices can only be flown within the sight line of an operator.

The drones used in Air 2015 would be flown inside an arena, skirting outdoor flight rules, the Guardian noted.
