Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals Get Back To Work

Ben Harper has unveiled the initial routing for his first tour with The Innocent Criminals in seven years. The schedule includes gigs in the U.S. and Europe, as well as festival appearances.

The singer/songwriter and his former backing band announced last fall that they would be reuniting for a four-night residency at San Francisco’s The Fillmore in March. The tickets for all four nights quickly sold out, but thankfully Harper & Co. have plenty of additional dates to do.

Harper has been working with The Innocent Criminals’ percussionist Leon Mobley, bassist Juan Nelson, drummer Oliver Charles for more than 20 years, dating back to Harper’s early gigs in Los Angeles and tour in support of his 1994 debut album, Welcome to the Cruel World. Keyboardist Jason Yates and guitarist Michael Ward joined the band a decade later.

Along with the tour, Harper and the band have been busy in the studio.

“The new music we’re writing honors the old IC sound, but is light ages ahead of where we were back then,” Harper said. “I can’t wait for fans to hear it and give us that stamp of approval that only Innocent Criminal fans can give.”
