Leaky Roof Kills Speech

A leaky roof has forced Wheeling officials to move the mayor’s State of the City address to a different venue.

Wheeling, W.Va.

Media outlets report that the leak developed in the historic Capitol Theatre’s roof over the weekend. Water is leaking into the ballroom where Mayor Andy McKenzie was scheduled to deliver his address on Tuesday.

The event has been moved to Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack.

The Capitol Theatre is operated under the Greater Wheeling Sports and Entertainment Authority. Authority executive director Dennis McGruder tells media outlets that ice on the roof has prevented workers from making repairs.
