Jack Orbin Retiring

Jack Orbin is hanging up his hat at Stone City Attractions in San Antonio, capping a 43-year career as one of the nation’s top independent promoters.
Stone City Attractions’ Jack Orbin celebrates his birthday with Michael Marion when Trans-Siberian Orchestra rolls through Verizon Arena at North Little Rock, Ark., Dec. 6.

Orbin has promoted artists from Stevie Ray Vaughan to The Rolling Stones, bailed Ozzy Osbourne out of a Texas jail in the infamous Alamo incident, and fought censorship in rock alongside Frank Zappa and Dee Snyder.

A conscientious objector during the Vietnam War era and protégé of the late Bill Graham, Orbin also credits a “spiritual awakening” while living in the Colorado Rockies for guiding his business practices and anti-corporate philosophy.

In his early years, Orbin pledged never to raise tickets to more than $3 and, even though he couldn’t keep that pledge, he remained a staunch critic of “corporate profiteering,” according to his retirement announcement.

Orbin has received several local honors and was inducted into the Texas Legacy Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Among Stone City Attractions’ many charitable causes are Guns for Tickets, Little Kids Rock, food banks, Hurricane Katrina relief, homeless assistance and other non-profits assisting special needs children through music therapy.

Orbin “will continue raising consciousness about injustice in the music industry, local and national social justice causes and anti-war work,” according to the statement, and thanks “his family, his loyal staff, bands, and his ticket patrons for giving him the freedom to Rock the Industry the Jack Orbin way.”
