Brits Boost Sales

While the televised show itself was met with widespread negative reviews, the Brit Awards has provided a huge sales boost to the artists involved.

Royal Blood, which won the gong for est British group, saw demand for its self-titled album surge 209 percent, enough to see it rise a dozen places in the UK’s Official Albums Chart.

Paloma Faith, whose album sales shot up by 130 percent, was another to enjoy a sharp increase, as were Sam Smith (78 percent), George Ezra (75 percent) and Ed Sheeran (73 percent).

The initial uplift was driven by digital downloads, although later in the week sales from audio streaming services and CDs were also on the up. Film of Madonna’s onstage stumble went viral , but sales of her greatest-hits album Celebration rose 62 percent.

“The BRITs always have a galvanising effect on artist sales, and with nine stand-out performances generating huge social engagement, we’re seeing a significant lift in demand for a lot of the music that was featured in the show,” said British Phonographic Industry and BRIT Awards chief exec Geoff Taylor. “This is shaping up to be one of the most impactful BRITs of recent years.”
