New York Shed To Replace Fairground Venue
Officials say a new amphitheater being built along the Onondaga Lake shoreline outside Syracuse, N.Y., will replace the New York State Fair’s aging grandstand.
Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney announced in her State of the County address that the grandstand at the fairgrounds in the suburb of Geddes will be torn down and the concerts moved to the amphitheater being built nearby.
Construction on the new venue began Tuesday and is expected to be completed by the end of the summer. State fair officials also confirmed the plan. Mahoney says the grandstand’s current 70-acre site could be used for equestrian events.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced in January that he wanted to invest $50 million into upgrading the fairgrounds.
