Lew Soloff Dies

Lew Soloff Dies Lew Soloff, a jazz trumpeter with Blood, Sweat & Tears, died of a heart attack March 8 in Brooklyn, N.Y., according to his manager Nancy Meyer. He was 71.

Soloff joined BS&T in 1968 and played on hits such as “Spinning Wheel,” “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” and “And When I Die,” to name a few. He toured with the band until 1973, when he left to pursue other interests.

The Brooklyn native also did session work for Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra and Lou Reed, was lead trumpeter for the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and a member of the Manhattan Brass quintet.
