Goldenvoice Backs Music Camp

Goldenvoice is partnering with the Coachella Valley Community Trust to host what is being described as a “school of rock” set for this summer in Indio, Calif.

The Academy of Musical Performance, a summer camp to advance music and production skills for 40 students in grades six to 10, is set for June 29 to July 24 at the , according to the Desert Sun.

Roman Whittaker, board member for the trust, said Goldenvoice’s Skip Paige encouraged him to make the camp a reality.

“Goldenvoice is a longtime supporter of the CVCT,” Whittaker told the Sun. “Typically, it has done many grants and supported other nonprofits that benefit youths, particularly in the east valley. “Skip and I were talking about it and he expressed a desire (on behalf of) Goldenvoice that we have more of our own direct programs. Knowing what they’re into, I thought, how cool would it be to have a School of Rock-type summer camp?”

Auditions for the camp, which will cover the basics plus stage production, audio-visual work, event management and concert promotion among subjects, will be March 14 at IPAC. The Academy will host a public concert July 25 to showcase the student talent.
