Here We Go Again

Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei wants Live Nation and satellite radio broadcaster Sirius XM to cross-promote their services, with Wall Street seeing it as a positive suggestion. 

Liberty Media is a major stakeholder in both companies. “Using Live Nation to differentiate Sirius and using Sirius to promote Live Nation is very logical,” Maffei said, according to The Street. “But I remain somewhat disappointed that more things haven’t happened there.”

Maffei noted that Sirius XM comes standard in many automobiles and the service could be used to promote Live Nation events. He took the blame for the lack of synergy up to this point, and representatives for Live Nation and Sirius declined to comment on Maffei’s statements. History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme.

There was a time when Live Nation was known as Clear Channel Entertainment and under the auspices of the radio giant Clear Channel Communications. It was eventually spun off after Clear Channel grew frustrated with its inability to synergize the live performance division with its radio broadcasting.
