Echosmith

Like a perfectly baked chocolate chip cookie with just the right proportion of ingredients, a variety of elements have to come together for a band to be a success.

While the breakout song “Cool Kids” has definitely helped get Echosmith’s name out there, Paradigm’s Jeffrey Hasson tells Pollstar that the alt/pop band made up of the four Sierota siblings has been growing its career thanks to a multi-pronged effort.

With “a combination of their attitude along with the work that they put in on the road and their success at radio, they’ve [been] able to build this base that we’re going to nurture and take to the next level,” Hasson said.

He noted, “Everything has been firing on all cylinders – the label’s been doing an amazing job, management’s been doing an amazing job, we put them in the right situations and that’s been a part of the success of how every show [on the current headline tour has] been selling out.” Plus, the act is putting in the time to connect with fans by standing at the merch booth for hours to sign and take photos.

Although lead vocalist Sydney, guitarist/vocalist Jamie, bassist/vocalist Noah and drummer Graham range in age from 16-21, they grew up listening to ‘80s acts like The Smiths and Joy Division, thanks to their father’s musical tastes. That influence can be heard on the band’s debut album, Talking Dreams.

The band is continuing to support the 2013 release. Hasson said it’s been a “very gradual, organic build” in which new fans are still discovering the music.

Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman was one fan who believed in Echosmith early on and was a big advocate of the band. Echosmith has honed its live show by playing gig after gig, including Warped 2013-2014 and supporting American Authors last year. In February the band launched a North American headline tour.

“It feels like we’re establishing [Echosmith] as a real headline entity, which is what the main goal was … play the right rooms with the right ticket price, sell every show out and leave people wanting more,” Hasson said.

With “Cool Kids” going platinum around the world, Echosmith’s team is also focusing on building the band on a global level. After the North American headline tour wraps, the band is headed to Europe, followed by a two-week Asian run in August. This fall the band will be back in the U.S., supporting Twenty One Pilots.
