Salt Lake Shooter Trial Under Way
Quincy Earl Lawson is facing charges including first-degree felony murder, discharging a firearm charges and one count of obstructing justice.
Lawson was accused of firing six shots at Bradley Hancock outside the Core club during an incident Nov. 15. The shooting reportedly took place after Hancock escorted Lawson out of the club following a fight in the mosh pit with Hancock’s younger brother.
Hancock went back outside later, saw Lawson was still there and threw a piece of concrete in the man’s direction. An autopsy showed Hancock was hit twice in the arm and once in head by bullets from what police suspect was a handgun, though the weapon was never recovered, according to court documents obtained by the Salt Lake Tribune.
In court, a man who attended the concert with Lawson testified the dispute outside the club only escalated into a shooting after Hancock threw the concrete block, the paper said.
Defense attorneys also maintained Lawson was acting in self-defense, questioning Salt Lake City homicide Detective Chris Kotrodimos as to whether police would have arrested Hancock for assault had the concrete block hit and injured Lawson.
“Probably,” Kotrodimos said, according to the Tribune. Lawson is being held on $1 million bail. If convicted, he could spend life in prison.
