Col. Bruce Hampton Reunites With Aquarium Rescue Unit
The lineup is classic with Col. Bruce fronting a band consisting of Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Herring and Jeff Sipe.
Of course, Herring is known for his role in Widespread Panic as well as The Dead, Jazz is Dead, The Ringers and his own solo project. Burbridge’s credentials are equally impressive and include The Allman Brothers Band, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and his own band, The Peacemakers. The drummer in his own trio, Sipe has collaborated with Phil Lesh, Bela Fleck, Susan Tedeschi, Trey Anastasio, Jazz is Dead and many more.
Although the Colonel and Aquarium Rescue Unit went their separate ways in 1993, the band reunited for a 2011 gig at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Ga. Joining the band for the summer run will be keyboardist Matt Slocum, who played on the Georgia Theatre show.
“Brue is a visionary that has enriched the life of anyone that’s worked with him,” Herring said. “He gives you an outlet that encourages finding your own voice, but he’s quick to point out that freedom can be a prison.”
