Rolling Stones To Announce On Tuesday?
The marketing campaign leading up to the failed-to-launch announcement included billboards emblazed with Stones imagery placed in cities the band supposedly plans to play. In the digital world the Stones’ Twitter page was suggesting #SatisfactionThursday as the day the band would reveal its plans.
But Satisfaction Thursday, otherwise known as March 19, came and went without a whisper of even a single day from Jagger & Co. Nashville is one of the cities rumored to be on the tour and on March 19 Nashville TV station WKRN reported that the announcement was delayed due to “An issue with the nationwide promoter’s ticketing.”
By the end of Satisfaction Thursday a new rumor was circulating, claiming that the band would announce its North American tour March 31. And it looks as if it just might happen as planned.
For one thing, a Rolling Stones tour announcement doesn’t happen without plenty of hoopla, meaning events are often planned for the markets on the routing. Nashville Mayor Karl Dean will appear with Tennessee Titans VP of Facilities and Game Day Operations Bob Flynn and senior VP of AEG Live Ali Harnell tomorrow morning at LP Field,” according to The Tennessean. You can bet they’re not meeting at the field for coffee and donuts.
Indianapolis was another city where digital billboards proclaimed something was up with The Stones. The Indianapolis Star reports that those billboards have returned and that the band is “expected” to announce its tour, including a gig at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway scheduled for July 4.
The Rolling Stones might also have Florida on the mind. Tampa Bay Times says that the City of Orlando has scheduled a press conference at the Citrus Bowl for 8:30 a.m. tomorrow for a “major concert announcement.” How major? The fact that the announcement is being made by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and that a senior VP from AEG Live will attend has only fueled the flames for a “Ruby Tuesday.”
However, the biggest harbinger of what’s to come tomorrow may have been a tweet Mick Jagger issued earlier today.
