For months there have been stories saying that former Cleveland Browns owner Lerner, who nearly nine years ago bought the club from Doug Ellis for £62.6 million, wants out.

He recently described owning Villa as “week in, week out battles.”

The current battle hinges on whether new manager Tim Sherwood, formerly with Tottenham Hotspur, can get the team playing well enough to avoid being relegated to a lower league at the end of the season. Dropping out of the Premier League would mean Lerner would have to halve his current £150 million asking price for the club.

The Daily Telegraph says there are ongoing negotiations with a syndicate interested in an English soccer club and a 16-acre country estate near to its training ground at Bodymore Heath, north Warwickshire.
