Phish’s Mike Gordon On His Own

Before touring with Phish this summer, Mike Gordon will embark a 16-date excursion in June. The bassist/vocalist is taking his band on the outing as well as “plenty of mad scientist gadgetry.”

Gordon’s band features Scott Murawski on guitar, Craig Myers percussion, Robert Walter on keyboards and John Kimock on drums. As far the gadgetry, Gordon and his team spent a couple of years coming up with nifty audio and visual tools to help bring the band and audience closer together.

You’ll want to get up close and personal with the EEL, a giant digital keyboard on the edge of the stage that allows fans to “play the band.”

Wired magazine checked out the EEL on Gordon’s 2014 tour.

“The fans instinctively touch the lit keys, and when they do, they hear a sound come through the venue’s sound system. A bass note, the blat of a snare drum, the plink of a piano,” said Wired. “They start to tap the various keys, and the sounds spill out in rhythm with the song being played on stage. In a matter of seconds, a passive observer becomes part of the show.”

Gordon is continuing to support his fourth studio album, 2014’s Overstep.
