Festivals Are Not Enough For Mac DeMarco

Already looking at a spring calendar filled with festival gigs, rising artist Mac DeMarco slots a headlining run beginning in late summer, designating August for the U.S. & Canada and September for Europe.

It would probably be easier to list which major festivals the Canadian-born artist isn’t playing this year. Hitting the major events on both sides of the ocean, DeMarco’s festival schedule includes , Atlanta’s , Austin’s and Primavera Sound in , Spain, and , Portugal.

Fans in the Pacific Northwest can still catch DeMarco’s shows in Seattle (tonight)  and Vancouver (April 24-25).  He’s also booked for a gig at Boston’s Northeastern University April 27.

A lot of DeMarco’s appeal comes from his incredibly successful Salad Days album that he recorded himself at his home in Queens, N.Y.  Drawing comparisons to acts ranging from Steely Dan to David Bowie to the late Harry Nilsson, DeMarco’s killer pop sound captured in two full-length albums and on two EPs is steadily enchanting more fans by the minute.

Now, almost one year to the day Salad Days was released, DeMarco says he has a mini-album in the works.  Containing eight newly written songs, Another One arrives Aug. 7 on Captured Tracks.  Pre-order it through this link and you just might receive bonus instrumentals of the album.

DeMarco’s headlining run begins after he plays yet another festival. Appearing at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Aug. 8, he begins his headlining tour in Boston Aug. 11.  Destinations include Montreal, Quebec, New York, Buffalo, and Portland, Maine.  He’ll also stop at the Time Festival in Toronto, Ontario, Aug. 15.
