Malaysian Authorities Shut Down Dance Event

Malaysian authorities shut down dance event Thirst 2015 less than an hour before the doors were to open in Kuala Lumpur.

“Despite all efforts taken to make sure it is a suitable and safe environment for everyone, the authorities have decided to cancel the event and we are obliged to follow their decision,” Organizer Future Sound Asia said. “We were looking forward to this great music event. Unfortunately, the universe is not on our side this time, despite having worked closely with all relevant bodies and agencies to secure the necessary regulatory compliance.”

When contacted by local media, one of the coordinators of the concert, Ethan Wong, “declined to comment,” according to Todayonline.

The show was at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Center April 25.

Future Sound Asia says it had been working on Thirst 2015 for the past year with the help of “international experts” to present a “full-fledged security, safety, issue and communication plan” that would “provide dance music lovers a safe and secure platform to share their passion and come together.”

Last year, another dance event in Kuala Lumpur, Future Music Festival Asia, was canceled on the second day after six people suffered drug overdoses. No reasons were given for the cancellation of Thirst 2015 by either the authorities or Future Sound Asia.
