After 15 years of delays, the Jefferson Performing Arts Center in Metairie, La., is expected to open in June.

The 1,050-seat theatre has been under development for more than 15 years, plagued by a series of issues that doubled the original price tag, according to the Advocate newspaper.

Construction has cost the parish and the state $54.5 million.

However, facility manager SMG and members of the Jefferson Performing Arts Society are expected to be on-hand June 19 for guided tours.

The next night, the theatre will host a gala opening, showcasing the area’s theatrical talent. The venue includes an 89-foot-wide stage with an orchestra lift that can be raised and lowered by a motor-driven system and a state-of-the-art acoustic design.
