Blur Books Warmup Shows

Before playing Isle Of Wight Festival and making its big return to London’s Hyde Park, Blur will prep for the gigs by playing a few intimate venues, like the 1,500-capacity Venue Cymru in Llandudno, Wales.

Hyde Park was one of the locations for the band’s reunion shows in summer 2009, where Damon Albarn & the gang played for 50,000 fans two nights in a row.

And now Blur is back together again for its first full-fledged outing since 2013, thanks to the release of The Magic Whip. Released last week, the LP is Blur’s first in 12 years.

The June 20 Hyde Park show, which is part of the Barclaycard British Summer Time, makes Blue the only act to have played the venue four times. The gig includes special guests Metronomy, The Horrors, Jupiter & Okwess International, Drenge, Roots Manuva, Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, Teleman, Iris Gold, Fufanu and Sugarmen.

But first Blur will take the stage at Isle of Wight Festival June 13 in Newport, Wales, and at Zenith Paris June 15.

In addition to June 11 in Llandudno, the warmup gigs include June 9 in Glasgow, Scotland, at Barrowland and June 10 in Blackpool, England, at Empress Ballroom. Tickets go on sale May 8 at 10 a.m. local time.

Inspired by the new album, The Magic Whip is “a dairy vanilla custard ice cream rippled with raspberry sauce.”
