Roger Daltrey’s No Weed Zone

There will be no smoking mother nature around Roger Daltrey during “The Who Hits 50 !” tour. Apparently he almost lost his voice earlier this week when a fan smoking a number was too close for comfort.

The Who’s Wednesday night gig at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y., almost ended early when Daltrey’s voice began to give out shortly after the band took the stage.

From Newsday:

“Daltrey has a well-known allergy to marijuana smoke that affects his throat and singing voice, a condition the band even emphasized during the informational slides it projected before its set.”

The article goes on to say “the smoke’s impact was almost immediate on his voice, which went from crystal clear and potent for the opening ‘I Can’t Explain’ to something rougher and more limited during ‘I Can See For Miles.’”

Daltrey apologize for the rough vocal, saying, “My voice is shutting down.”

Of course, there’s video.

But the band played on and Daltrey’s voice is reported to have improved over a few songs.  Needless to say, fans having close-to-the-stage tickets on upcoming dates should probably leave their stash at home. Or, perhaps, stick with edibles.
