Wyoming Scales Back Renovations
The school revamped the arena’s court and seating area last year. A second phase was set to include renovations to bathrooms and concessions, a new club area and a new entryway, but the UW Board of Trustees found the plan didn’t jibe with the remaining $17.2 million left in the budget.
The school will eliminate the planned club area and new entrance to cut costs, the Laramie Boomerang reported. Bill Sparks, the university’s senior associate athletic director, told the paper the club construction isn’t off the table completely, but rather just on hold for the time being.
“I think we would certainly, at some point of time, revisit the club area for the basketball arena,” Sparks said.
He added that the bathroom and concession renovations still fall within the intent and focus of the project as they’re “the amenities that contribute to the masses who come to the games. We want them to have the best experiences they can.”
Construction on the project could begin next year if approvals and reviews are passed before a deadline, the paper noted.
