The Baltimore-based dream pop group recorded the recorded at Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, La., between November and January. The Sub Pop album is available for preorder as a LP, CD or digital edition, as well as a bundle with a T-shirt.

A statement from the duo – Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally – on Sub Pop’s website says Depression Cherry “is a color, a place, a feeling, an energy… that describes the place you arrive as you move through the endlessly varied trips of existence …”

The album is seen, in general, as a “return to simplicity, with songs structured around a melody and a few instruments, with live drums playing a far lesser role.”

The statement notes that thanks to the success of 2010’s Teen Dream and 2012’s Bloom, Beach House moved up to bigger venues, which naturally pushed the duo “towards a louder, more aggressive place; a place farther from our natural tendencies. Here, we continue to let ourselves evolve while fully ignoring the commercial context in which we exist.”
