Photos From Last Night’s MusiCares Event

Roving Pollstar photographer John Davisson attended the MusiCares MAP Fund benefit in New York last night and snapped these great photos of the event honoring Pete Townshend and the longtime manager of The Who, Bill Curbishley, for their charitable efforts.

We posted the Associated Press account of the benefit earlier today, but at that time AP only provided one photo – a close up of Townshend.  Now we have a little eye candy, courtesy of Mr. Davisson.  Clicking on an individual photo reveals the complete image.

Saying The Who was the first rock concert he ever attended, Springsteen described how Townshend’s guitar smashing influenced his own performance style while a member of the teenage band The Castiles.

“I went out and I bought a smoke bomb and I bought a strobe light and I brought them to the gig,” Springsteen said

At the end of the night, I lit the smoke bomb in the Catholic school basement, I turned on the strobe light and I climbed on top of my Danelectro amplifier holding a vase of flowers I’d stolen from one of the upstairs classrooms. As the nuns looked on with horror, I reached up and smashed them onto the dance floor.”
