Brandi Carlile Extends Schedule

Happy birthday, Brandi Carlile! As a present to her fans, she’s added nine dates to her U.S. tour. What would she like from you? The singer/songwriter is asking fans to contribute to the Looking Out Foundation to raise funds for the Fight The Fear Campaign.

To mark her 34th birthday, Carlile is asking fans to donate $34 or whatever you can afford. Last year fans raised $4,828 and the Looking Out Foundation then matched the amount, bringing the total donation to the campaign to $9,656.

According to Carlile’s CrowdRise page, the Fight the Fear Campaign is a violence-prevention initiative that “provides training in basic self defense skills including awareness, de-escalation, boundary setting, assertive communication, and fighting techniques – as well as access to resources for survivors of violence or abuse.”

Carlile released her fifth studio album, The Firewatcher’s Daughter, in March on ATO. The LP debuted at No. 9 on the Nielsen SoundScan chart, her highest ever debut. NPR’s Fresh Air rock critic Ken Tucker calls the album Carlile’s “best yet.”

Speaking of NPR, Carlile and her band are headed to the County Music Hall of Fame June 10 for a special performance and Q&A led by NPR’s Ann Powers.
