Sam Smith Is Back

Sam Smith posted an image of The Little Mermaid on Instagram today with the caption “I CAN SPEAK AGAIN !!!!!!!!” Plus, he’s announced dates for his return to Australia after being forced to cut his spring tour short because of a hemorrhage on his vocal cords.

The British singer underwent vocal cord surgery in Boston last month to stop recurrent vocal cord bleeding. The Associated Press notes that his surgeon, Dr. Steven Zeitels, also treated Steven Tyler, Lionel Richie and Adele.

Following the Ariel post, Smith gave his doctor a shout-out on Instagram a few hours ago. He writes, “Completely overwhelmed. Thank you so much Doctor Zeitels for everything. You have truly saved me this past few months. Such an amazing man. You truly truly truly don’t know what you got until you lose it. I have fallen in love with music all over again over this past month, and more than ever I feel so blessed to be able to sing and do what I love every day xx”

Smith is set to return to the stage July 3 with a sold-out show in Suffolk, England, at Thetford Forest. After a handful of European festival appearances, he heads to North America later that month, starting with a set at Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Ky.

The rescheduled Australia shows take place in November and December. Smith says, “From all the bad news has come some good news!! Not only am I coming back to make up for the cancelled shows but I get to play bloody arenas!!!! So excited to sing for all of you and apologise personally for my bleeding throat xxxx”
