Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre Now Microsoft Theater

Nokia Theater LA Live has a new name: Microsoft Theater, and the 40,000-square-foot outdoor plaza will be rebranded Microsoft Square.

The deal was created by AEG Global Partnerships. Microsoft has several investments in the Los Angeles area, including with the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Magic Johnson Foundation.

Microsoft is expected to contribute “cutting edge technology and expertise to AEG’s upcoming refurbishment and renovation” of the various public and private spaces of the former Nokia Theater.

The AEG-owned property next to the Staples Center opened in 2008 and has hosted the Primetime EMMY Awards, ESPY Awards and the MTV Video and Movie Awards shows, among many other events.

A name change for the nearby Club Nokia is expected in the late summer or early fall.
