Any worries about going ahead without a marquee headliner were soon brushed aside when Sweden Rock sold out in record time, with visitors from 54 countries making up the event’s 33,000-capacity crowd.

It was the festival’s eighth successive sellout. With the last ticket sold as long ago as February, festival organiser Ingolf Persson’s only real concerns could have been bad weather or a repeat of the industrial action from Swedish train drivers that inconvenienced fans at last year’s gathering. Last year the trains stopped at Bromölla, about 20 miles short of the Solvesborg site, which left fans needing to use the shuttle busses or very happy taxi drivers to complete their journey to the festival.

Persson reports that this year’s weather was fine throughout and the train drivers seem to have settled whatever issues they had. This year’s Sweden Rock line-up June 3-6 included Def LeppardJudas PriestFaith No MoreMotley CrueSlash, and Toto.
