Concert Of Colors Continues Global Groove In 23rd Year
A long-running festival celebrating musical and ethnic diversity returns next month to Detroit.
Organizers of the 23rd annual Concert of Colors this week announced the lineup for this year’s installment. It kicks off July 4 with its Tune Up Concert and the main event runs from July 9-12.

Acts include Nigeria’s King Sunny Ade, who performs July 11, and Puerto Rico’s Plena Libre plays on July 12. Detroit-raised star Don Was also leads the festival’s Detroit All-Star Revue that day.
The performances are free and open to the public. Venues include the Max M. Fisher Music Center, Detroit Institute of Arts and New Center Park.
An affiliated forum on the role of art in activism is scheduled for July 8 at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn.
