Calendar Casts Shadow On Greenfield

FKP Scorpio chief Folkert Koopmans reckons that three Swiss rock events happening within a couple of weeks of each other hit attendances at his Greenfield Festival.

The 11-year-old festival on the outskirts of Interlaken did 18,000 per day, about 5,000 lower than its recent average, while two rock events run by fellow German promoter Deutsche Entertainment fared better. On June 6 a lineup that included Muse, Incubus, and The Hives drew nearly 40,000 to the ExpoPark at Nidau-Biel in northern Switzerland, which has come under DEAG’s control since it bought a majority share of the festival’s co-owner, the UK’s Kilimanjaro Live.

At Hinwil, near Zurich, June 19-21, DEAG’s three-day Rock The Ring pulled 30,000 per day for a bill that had Toto, Billy Idol, Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, and The Hooters.

The Greenfield lineup June 11-13 included Slipknot, Motorhead, Godsmack, Lamb Of God, The Gaslight Anthem, and Danko Jones.
