Pearl Jam Promises Announcement

Pearl Jam gave its fans something to talk about over the Fourth of July weekend by announcing July 2 that the band would be making a “special announcement.”

The group said followers on Facebook and Twitter should “stay tuned.” Based on the image below, which resembles a New York subway sign, fans are guessing that the big news has something to do with NYC. Although the image declares that the announcement is “coming soon,” it’s been four days and we’re apparently still waiting.

Sites like Gothamist and Stereogum point to the theory that Pearl Jam might be playing . The event returns to Central Park’s Great Lawn Sept. 26. So far the only confirmed act is Ed Sheeran.

Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis and the Global Poverty Project CEO Hugh Evans launched the Global Citizen Tickets Initiative in 2013 to encourage fans to help fight poverty while earning points for concert tickets. The Global Poverty Project is the advocacy organization behind the Global Citizen Festival.

Of course, a new Pearl Jam U.S. tour would be nice too. The band hasn’t toured the States since last fall. Pearl Jam heads to South America in November for a run of dates including stops in Chile, Brazil and Colombia.

Or maybe the news has nothing to do with New York or a tour.

As of the time of this post, Pearl Jam’s most recent update on Twitter was a photo posted on Sunday of Vedder, captioned with “Education” lyrics – “If I’ve been taught from the beginning. Would my fears now by winning?”

The most recent Facebook update announces that the band’s Nov. 30, 1993 show in Las Vegas has been chosen as Vault #5 and will be released on vinyl. A fan named Jeff Osantowski posted on Facebook, “This isn’t the big special announcement, is it? If so, my new favorite band shall be Air Supply.”
