Guster Keeps Making Moves

Guster is looking to give back with its fall tour by offering its opening spot to local college or high school bands. After all, that’s how the alternative rock band got its start back in the early ‘90s.

“Opening for national acts was a huge deal for us back when we were a college band named Gus. We were lucky enough to grab gigs supporting Jackopierce, Rusted Root, and Live before we even graduated from Tufts.

“Getting in front of these audiences helped us gain the confidence to give ‘being in a band’ a real shot. And we’d like to spread that karma, so we’re inviting college and high school bands to open for us on our upcoming November tour.  Maybe we can even join your band for a song and vice versa?”

Submissions are accepted through Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. EDT. Tour openers will be announced the week of Sept. 28.

Since the band members met at Tufts University outside of Boston, Guster has released seven studio albums. Its latest is Evermotion, which came out in January on Nettwerk Records and the band’s Ocho Mule label.
