Some festivals during the period attract up to 15,000 revelers.
The Branding is a new country, pop and rock festival near Wanaka, catering for up to 3,000 and with a bill of 16 acts from New Zealand and Australia. It will take place Dec. 31 on 2 hectares of a 60-hectare block of farm land owned by Tony Glynn and Sarah Perriam next to the picturesque Clutha River.
The festival is an extension of the Branding event held for two years at the Lake Hawea Hotel before the event outgrew it, Perriam said. While the festival wraps up at 11 a.m. Jan. 2, visitors will be encouraged to stay on to attend the Wanaka Rodeo.
