The Mountain Goats Books One More Run Of 2015 Gigs

Mountain Goats fans who haven’t seen the band this year won’t want to miss this bit of touring news. The group fronted by John Darnille says the new run of U.S. dates is your last opportunity to see the “Beat The Champ Tour” in North America.

Beat The Champ was released in April via Merge, marking The Mountain Goat’s 15th studio album.

Although the LP was inspired by Darnielle’s childhood memories of watching wrestling on TV, A.V. Club notes that this is “hardly the sound of the WWE (or its 1970s equivalent).”

The A.V. Club’s review goes on to say, “Beat The Champ is a beautiful record, not a muscular one. Even when Darnielle indulges his heavy metal fanboy side and rocks hard on songs like “Choked Out” and “Werewolf Gimmick,” he sticks with his acoustic guitar, favoring cleanness over distortion. And for most of the album, The Mountain Goats aim for soft, sweet, minimal arrangements, with strings and woodwinds tastefully accenting piano, guitar, and drums.”

The Mountain Goats has a handful of September shows lined up, with shows in St. Louis; Lawrence, Kan.; and Lincoln, Neb., as well as an appearance at Iowa’s Maximum Ames Music Festival.

Here are the new dates:
