Spice Girls Reunion?

A London newspaper is reporting that four out of five Spice Girls will reunite for an international tour next year marking the group’s 20th anniversary since releasing “Wannabe.”

The dose of Spice gossip comes from journalist Dan Wootton’s article in today’s edition of The Sun.  Citing a “Spice source,” Wootton wrote that Mel B (Scary Spice), Mel C (Sporty Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) “made the decision at a secret meeting in London last month.”

Absent was Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), who is reported to be “too busy running her fashion brand and looking after her family to get back on a stage,” according to Wootton’s CSI (Confidential Spice Informant), who also stated that “the door will be left open” in case Beckham changes her mind.

The last time the Spice Girls performed in public was when the group appeared at the 2012 London Olympics Closing Ceremony.

According to the article in The Sun, Mel B is the one who really wants the reunion.  Saying “There’s no love lost between Mel B and Victoriam” the CSI told Wootton that Mel B “has been desperate to make this happen for a long time and she wasn’t going to let Victoria get in the way.”

Needless to say, a Spice Girls international tour, even with only four of the five singers, would be one of the year’s biggest entertainment events.  Today’s Sun article says that top concert promoters are battling “behind-the-scenes” to land the tour.

But will it happen?

The BBC reports that Bunton denied that the girls were contemplating a reunion, but the actual quote The Beeb ran from her radio program on Heart FM had Baby Spice saying “nothing’s happening at the moment,” which isn’t exactly a denial.

“If anything happens and it’s concrete, and we decide on something, I will let you know,” Bunton said, according to the BBC.

As you might expect, news of a possible return to the World of Spice spilled into the Twitterverse.

“Woke up this morning wondering whether I need to start practicing my backflips???!!!,” Mel C tweeted.  Bunton soon replied, saying, “Do I need to put my pigtails in?!?!?”

The BBC also noted that during last week’s appearance on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Mel B said “It’s about time” for a reunion.

But money may be the deciding factor.  According to The Sun, each Spice Girl could make approximately £10 million ($15.5 million) on a reunion tour.  Stay tuned.
