Drake Elder Dies

Drake Elder, 62, who helped create a concert scene in Jackson, Miss., beginning in the ’70s through his co-founding of the city’s BeBop Record shop, died Aug. 14 in his home.

Elder and his partners brought artists including Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Aerosmith and more to the city through their BeBop Productions.

Their record store at its height featured eight locations in the state before downsizing and closing the last location in 2011. In recent years, Elder and his wife managed the Mississippi Coliseum box office and Ticketmaster for central Mississippi.
