Juanes Headlines UN Humanitarian Day Event With New Song

Musicians Juanes, Cody Simpson and Inna Modja are headlining a special event at the United Nations for World Humanitarian Day – and the Colombian singer is introducing a new song he wrote just a few days ago for the occasion.

The stars lent their voices Tuesday to the world body’s effort to draw attention to major humanitarian crises in Syria, Yemen and elsewhere.

Not since World War II have so many people been displaced by conflict, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told the crowd.

The U.N. says its humanitarian office needs $20 billion this year to keep 100 million people in need alive – double what it sought in 2009 – but it’s received less than 30 percent.

Australian singer Simpson let a Syrian refugee use his social media account for a day during the #sharehumanity campaign.

Juanes tweeted that “it is an immense honor” to take part in the event.

He ended the concert with a song so new that it doesn’t yet have a title.

“Este mundo nesecita amor,” he sang.

“This world just needs more love.”
