Kinky Friedman’s Lonely No More

Armed with his first album featuring new material in almost four decades, Kinky Friedman fires up the ol’ bus for a one-month tour of these United States (with two stops in Canada).

Texas gubernatorial candidate, philosopher, author, cigar aficionado and self-described “Texas jewboy,” Friedman is hardly your average singer/songwriter.  Since he launched his career back when LBJ was president, Friedman’s satirical mindset has been reflected in such songs “They Ain’t Makin’ Jews Like Jesus Anymore” and “Asshole From El Paso”

Now it’s your turn to experience the Kink-meister in all his glory when Friedman goes traveling in support of his new disc – The Loneliest Man I Ever Met – arriving Oct. 2 on Avenue A Records/Thirty Tigers.

The album features Friedman indulging himself in one of his favorite pastimes – railing against perceived evils.  There’s also a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Pickin’ Time” and his own renditions of two American Songbook tunes – “Wand’rin Star” and “A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square.”

The new LP also includes songs by Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard and Tom WaitsWillie Nelson produced the album and joins Friedman for “Bloody Mary Morning,” a tune the Red-Headed Stranger wrote during the early’ 70s.

A life-long multi-tasker, Friedman’s new album isn’t his only project.  An author of best-selling detective novels in which he’s also the hero, Friedman has a new who-done-it.  “The Hard-Boiled Computer” is a somewhat ironic title considering he doesn’t email or text and has been known to say “real cowboys don’t tweet.”

But Friedman’s forays into detective fiction don’t stop with the printed page.  He’s also working on a series of TV movies based on his books with pal Billy Bob Thornton playing the Kinkster.
