Rachael Yamagata Steps Out
“Tom Waits meets Roberta Flack” might sound like some oddball horror movie airing in the wee hours on your local-access cable channel but that’s one of the descriptions Yamagata’s camp has offered for her new album. With production described as “riskier and cinematic,” the work has also been described as “Nick Cave hanging with Rufus Wainwright,” which, in another universe, could be a hint about the casting for that Waits meets Flack flick. Yamagata’s new record is expected to arrive in early 2016.
You can get a taste of the new album when Yamagata road-tests a few selections during her fall tour. Playing mostly clubs, the Oct-Nov. outing launches in Pittsburgh and wraps one month later in New York. Here’s the schedule:
