Disclosure, Flaming Lips For McLaren Falls
The first of three artist announcements also features Kurt Vile, the UK’s Young Fathers and, from Australia, The Preatures, Alison Wonderland, C.W Stoneking and Jordan Leser. The equally eclectic New Zealand contingent at the Jan. 10-12 event includes Avalanche City, The Datsuns, The Chills, P-Money, David Dallas and the Daylight Robbery, The Phoenix Foundation, Marlon Williams & The Yarra Benders, Tiny Ruins, Racing, Arthur Ahbez, The Eastern and Fazerdaze.
Festival director Paxton Talbot said the event’s well-being program and themed “glamping” would bring “a taste of Glastonbury and Coachella to the Pacific.” He hopes to draw 10,000 the first year with plans to expand to a seven-day event covering more areas of the picturesque Western Bay of Plenty region.
McLaren Falls is the latest in the country’s array of summer festivals, which includes Rhythm & Vines in Gisborne (Dec. 29-31), Raggamuffin in Auckland (Feb. 20), Soundsplash in Raglan (Jan. 8-10) Soulfest in Auckland (Oct. 26), Northern Bass in Mangawhai (Dec. 29-31) One Love in Bay of Plenty (Feb. 6-7), and St Jerome’s Laneway Festival which is looking for a site to stage in either late January or early February.
